Can’t Afford Dental Implants

Posted by writeradmin

I’m thirty-six years old and am losing all my teeth due to a medical condition. My dentist is quite clear that he thinks I should get dental implants, but they are absolutely out of my budget. I don’t know what to do. Is there a way to get discounted dental implants?

Amelia

Dear Amelia,

before and after facial collapse

What I would not do is look for the cheapest dentist to do this for you. Placing dental implants is one of the most advanced procedures that a dentist can do. There are countless dental implants horror stories. Some people have ended up with serious infections or even lost part of their jaw as a result.

You are in a tough spot and having some form of dental implants will be important for you in order to avoid facial collapse. When your teeth are removed, your body will immediately begin to resorb the minerals in your jawbone in order to use those resources elsewhere. This is because you no longer have teeth roots there that your body needs to support. Unfortunately, this means in about ten years, you will no longer have enough jawbone left to retain your denture, essentially making you a dental cripple. This is known as facial collapse.

Dental implants prevents this because it signals to your body that you have teeth which need to be preserved. Because of that, it leaves your jawbone intact.

I don’t have perfect answers for your situation, but here are some possibilities that could help.

  • If you live close to a post-doctoral institution which teaches dental implants, You could volunteer to be a patient. The appointments will take longer because they are learning and being instructed while treating you. The fees are lower because of that inconvenience.
  • While not the same as full sized implants, there is a more affordable implant option. You could get snap-on dentures or locater dentures that uses only two implants.
  • As a last resort, you could start with removable dentures for now as you save up for the better treatment.

I hope this helps.
