Dental Implants Disaster

Posted by writeradmin

I had a full mouth of dental implants placed for implant overdentures. The permanent dentures were never completed or placed and something is off with the temporary ones. I have a mouth full of screws and am in pain all the time. Most of the time I can’t eat anything but soft foods. I’m kind of stuck because it turns out that my dentist just closed his doors and left the country. I don’t know if he had an emergency or he was dodging the law, but either way I’m in this position. His office isn’t even answering their phone anymore. What do I do?

Amy

Dear Amy,

Woman covering her mouth

You’re in an awful position and I wish that I had an easier answer for you. If he skipped the country, you are not likely to get any recourse. The only thing you can do is have these implant overdentures fixed by another dentist.

You are going to want to make sure it is a skilled, reputable implant dentist. Hopefully, the implants were placed correctly and you won’t have to worry about having it all redone.

Check that whoever you go to has post doctoral training in dental implants. You’ll also want to check out their reviews to make sure that other patients have had good experiences experiences with him or her. Your ideal implant dentist will be a fellow with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

I know you have already lost a lot of money here, but don’t look for the cheapest dentist. This is a highly advanced procedure and things can get a lot worse if it isn’t done right. Also make sure that whoever looks at your case does a CT scan to get a really good look at everything.
