How Often Will I Have to Go In With Invisalign?

Posted by writeradmin

I have been looking into getting Invisalign. As I read it, it appears that you get new aligners every two weeks. Would I have to go into the dentist every two weeks as well? The reason I ask is that I have six children. Five of them are below school age thanks to my family’s propensity for twins. The idea of dragging them with me to the dentist every two weeks is a bit disheartening. A babysitter is out of the question. That would cost too much especially every two weeks. Is there a chance the doc can make exceptions on the visits?

Dear Sarah,

Invisalign aligners

I’m glad you wrote. You are a very busy mom, so I don’t blame you on not wanting to schlep everyone to the dentist every couple of weeks. While you do change your aligners every two weeks, it is typical for your Invisalign provider to give you a month’s worth at each visit. This means most patients only go once a month. That alone cuts your visits in half.

Given your circumstances, though, it is possible that your dentist may be able to cut them down even more. That mostly depends on the complexity of your case and whether or not your teeth are following the plan. Sometimes our bodies do exactly what they’re told and other times they get a bit rebellious and adjustments have to made to your treatment. I would explain your situation to your dentist after the first month, he or she will have a better idea of how your treatment is going.

There is a side benefit to Invisalign that you should know about. The aligners can double as teeth whitening trays. This means if you ask your dentist for some professional strength teeth whitening gel, you can use the gel at your convenience in your aligners. This allows you to straighten and whiten your teeth at the same time and saves you some money if you’d planned on both procedures anyway.
