Finishing Invisalign After Moving?

Posted by writeradmin

I am on my last set of aligners and will need to move to another state before I finish with them. I need some advice. I was supposed to go back to my Invisalign dentist for a retainer once I was finished with my treatment. However, this move was unexpected and rather urgent. My mother is very ill and I need to care for her. I’m not sure I will be able to get back for my retainer. Will any other Invisalign dentist be able to just pick up from where I left off?

Ingrid

Dear Ingrid,

Invisalign aligners

You have a couple of options here. Yes, you can go to another Invisalign dentist and they can pick up right where you left off. In fact your dentist will provide him with all your diagnostics as well as treatment notes.

However, given the situation with your mother I think you may be tied up. That is why I’m going to tell you how you can use your Invisalign aligners as a retainer. This way you can focus on your mother.

Start with wearing your final pair of aligners as you normally do. Do that for at least a month. Then, wear them just at night for a couple of months. After that, you can try wearing them every other night and test if that is working. You will know whether you are safe to continue that way by whether your teeth have shifted in those two days. You’ll be able to tell by whether or not it is a little harder to put the aligner back in. If they are, go back to wearing them every night for another few weeks and try again. But if your teeth haven’t shifted, continue wearing them every other night for a couple of months longer. Gradually back off more, a little at a time, always checking to see whether or not your teeth have shifted. Back up the schedule as needed.

I hope everything works out okay for you and your mother.
