Whether you’re looking to rejuvenate your appearance or alleviate your TMD symptoms, Botox treatment can help you reach your goals. With Dr. Michelle Stillman’s targeted treatments for the jaw, forehead, and brow areas, you can address multiple concerns in a single visit.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox treatment is administered via injection into specific muscle sites. It causes the muscle to relax, inducing effects that improve your well-being and appearance. In our office, we use Botox to relieve pain and tension associated with temporomandibular joing dysfunction (TMD).
Injections are delivered through a very thin needle for minimal discomfort. Results take a couple of weeks to reach their fullest and usually last for 3-4 months.
TMD Treatment
If you have temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), you may suffer from headaches, jaw and facial pain, and chewing difficulty. You may also deal with teeth grinding and clenching. The good news is that Botox treatment can reduce the occurrence of all of these symptoms and Dr. Stillman is licensed to use this treatment.
To treat symptoms of TMD, Dr. Stillman injects Botox into the temporalis and masseter muscles, two of the main muscles used for chewing. The temporalis muscles are located on the sides of the head, and the masseter muscles are located in between the cheeks and jaw. Treatment for the temporalis muscles also provides relief from chronic migraines, regardless of their cause.
Bruxism
Bruxism is a dental term for clenching or grinding your teeth. It can lead to jaw pain, but also cause premature wearing away of your teeth or even cracking or breaking teeth. You may be experiencing bruxism without even being aware of it, because it usually happens during your sleep. A nightguard can help protect your teeth against the damage from bruxism. Or Botox, since it relaxes the muscles, can eliminate any clenching or grinding.
